This
section of the Time to Treat web site focuses on Bowen Therapy -
giving you a background to where the therapy has grown from and
how it addresses particular complaints and injuries.
- You are given time to respond
during the treatment session.
-
The pace
of the Bowen Therapy is governed by your response to the Bowen
moves.
-
Bowen Therapists
do not impose their will on either you or the outcome of the
treatment.
-
The body
is treated as a whole, (no part of the body is considered to
act and exist in isolation).
-
The initial
Bowen moves aim to re-balance the body prior to addressing the
affected part. (Otherwise it would be rather like replacing
your worn car tyres whilst you have a twisted chassis.)
-
We treat,
for example. the good arm first. The mind, seeing how gentle
the Bowen moves are, 'releases' the affected arm for treatment
knowing that it is not going to be put into pain
It is a remedial therapy in
which the practitioner uses thumbs and forefingers on precise points
on the body to make rolling type moves that aim to disturb the muscles,
soft tissue and the nerves within the body. These moves stimulate
the body to make the adjustments that help to rebalance, relieve
tension and reduce pain.
There is no manipulation
or adjustment of hard tissue. It is not a form of massage. The treatment
affects the body in ways that promote healing, pain relief, and
recovery of energy.
The experience
of the treatment is gentle, subtle, and relaxing. It is these features
which make the Bowen Technique so unique.
Babies, children,
and the elderly.
It is generally
regarded as safe, gentle and effective for people of all ages. The
practitioner tailors the treatment for those who are either very
young, or in a weakened or frail state.
Sportsmen
A growing number
of athletes and their physiotherapists are discovering that regular
Bowen treatments enhance performance and reduce the incidence of
injury.
Roy Wilson has
found that the Bowen Technique brings rapid relief and quickly enables
the player to get back into the game. (Hamstring injury can be treated
on the pitch.)
